Across U.S. campuses, international students are experiencing rising anxiety related to visa uncertainty, immigration enforcement concerns, geopolitical tensions, and campus political pressures. At the same time, institutions must navigate legal obligations, student safety, freedom of expression, and internal communication challenges.

Join us at our next AIEA Member Town Hall that will provide a practical and strategy-focused forum for international education leaders to examine how the current political, legal, and policy environment is affecting international students, and what institutional leaders must do now to respond.

This session will focus on institutional readiness and leadership decision-making, including:

  • Communication strategies during periods of uncertainty
  • Coordination with campus counsel and senior leadership
  • Response protocols if enforcement actions or crises occur
  • Supporting student wellbeing while managing institutional risk
  • Addressing staff capacity and emotional labor in international offices

Featuring Panelists:

  • Samantha C. Brandauer, Associate Provost and Executive Director, Center for Global Study and Engagement, Dickinson College
  • Dan Berger, Attorney, Green & Spiegel
  • Jennifer R. Jones-Damis, Psy.D., LPC Director, Counseling, Alcohol and Other Drug Assistance Program & Psychiatric Services (CAPS), Rutgers University
  • Colleen Murphy, Interim Associate Chancellor and Vice Provost for Global Affairs and Strategies & Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Roger & Stephany Joslin Professor of Law, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Moderated by:

  • Gokhan Alkanat, Assoc. Provost for International Education, Rowan University

Through expert perspectives and peer examples, participants will explore practical approaches institutions are using now and identify strategies they can take back to their campuses immediately.
